Stana Katic : The whole thing is about knowing if Beckett heard his confession of love! And the answer is… yes ! But of course, she’ll act like she didn’t hear him because she’s going through too many things in her own life, to concentrate on her feelings towards Castle. She needs to be sure she’s able to dive into a relationship before she makes the first move.
Nathan Fillion: There are things in life that we can’t undo, and this “I love you” is one of them. Castle was terrified that Beckett could die, but he would avoid telling her these kinds of things, because he’s going to spend season 4 lying to her. The men who are after Beckett force him to make her stop investigating her mother’s murder. Castle is so afraid to lose her that he’ll do anything to make her stop. And if someday she learns the truth, she won’t forgive him easily…
This season, Beckett has to face PTSD after she nearly died. How will she and Castle act after that ?
Stana Katic : She suffers from PTSD for the first time in her entire life, Beckett will consider her past and the way she acts, including the way she acts with men. This will make her think about herself and make her understand why she can’t assume her love for Castle.
Nathan Fillion : After he almost lost her, Castle is scared, and he’s ready to sacrifice his love to keep her alive.That’s why he chooses to lie to her and makes her stop digging inside her mother’s murder.
Stana Katic: For her part, Kate knows that only the resolution of her mother’s murder can bring her peace and enable her to become the woman able to give all her love to a man like Castle. The writers found a good opportunity to prevent them from being together. And like the fans, I’m the first to regret it !
After four years, what still pleases you in your characters ?
Stana Katic : I love how Kate is self-assured and filled with flaws at the same time. She doesn’t always make the good choices in her love life, but she really tries to not hurt anyone. She always tries to be better, and when she fails, she tries again and rises even stronger. She’s a hell of a fighter.
Nathan Fillion : I admire Castle, because he’s still the big child he’s always been. He can do the worst fooleries, but he also knows how to be forgiven. I’d like to be able to do half of what he dares to do, and go through it without a care, like he does. I like his way of not paying attention to what people say about him. As an actor, we’re often too sensitive when we’re criticized, but Castle doesn’t pay attention to it. He doesn’t even realize he’s the victim of criticisms. He’s too cool to be affected by them.
Will we finally get to see Castle’s father this season ?
Nathan Fillion : I look forward to reading the sсript where Castle finally finds his father. But I have no precise information about it. However, I’d like to have a say in which actor will play father Castle. I have a list of actors I’d like to offer the role if they agree. If only Christopher Walken accepted, I’ll be in Heaven. But I doubt he’ll agree to be in a TV show. My second choice would be Bill Murray from Ghostbusters. But again, I have no illusion about his disponibility…
Stana Katic : It would be very interesting to observe the meeting between Castle and his father, mostly a father who, we discovered this season, is part of the CIA. I think Castle would love to be kind of James Bond’s son. It won’t damage his ego ! [laughs]
According to you, who would be more romantic between Castle and Beckett when they’re together ?
Stana Katic : I’m sure Kate is far more romantic than him. The truth is, Castle has seriously been damaged by his two first marriages. Kate still believes that it’s possible to love someone your entire life, whereas Castle is more cynic.
Nathan Fillion : You’re right, Castle’s problem is that he’s a little bored of love. He has the feeling he already tried the subject, and I’m not sure he really wants to get married again. Of course that doesn’t challenge his feelings towards Beckett, but they’re not on the same page about it.
